April 2016 Update

Thank you so much for praying for and partnering with me and our team in Asia and in the USA.

This past month, I had the chance to speak at a youth camp for a ministry that I worked with in its very beginnings, back in 2002 to 2004. It was wonderful to see old friends and to meet new ones, as well as witness the ongoing fruit of those early beginnings and how the ministry is thriving under local leadership.

There were around 150 participants counting staff and campers. I had the chance to preach about the Gospel of the Kingdom on the first night. Others spoke the other nights, including a Christian, Filipino movie director and former actor. It was interesting to talk to him and learn a little bit about the media business here.

I stayed a good portion of the week, having the chance to visit with several of the young people and to pray for and encourage them. I also shared part of a writing project I have been working on about our identity. It is called Defined: When Heaven Tells You Who You Are. It is not complete, but I was able to finish enough for Encounter Generation to furnish a copy to the young people in hopes that they would be encouraged in the love of God and the freedom of the Gospel.

There were testimonies of the impact of the youth camp in the lives of the young people and staff. Around 20 youth from one of our churches were able to attend and some of our leaders helped staff the camp as well. They spoke of the impact on their lives also. (Below are a Few Pictures from the Youth Camp. More Pictures Follow at the End of the Update)

In our network of churches, I felt God leading us to make the theme for year 2016: “Strengthening the Foundation.” As a result, we have been focusing heavily on discipleship. Pastor Joseph and Pastor Dion have recently finished taking a high percentage of the church members through our discipleship program called The Journey in the context of their small groups. Small Groups allow for questions, more discussion and application.

The Journey discipleship study took our churches through topics such as: Salvation, Baptism, The Great Commandment, Our Identity as Believers, The Life of a Disciple (Up, In and Out utilized from Mike Breen), Basic Doctrine, God’s Word and Prayer, Finding Your Gifts and more. The churches have finished this study and will celebrate with certificates for those who completed the book.

Please pray for our pastors for wisdom, compassion and the power of the Holy Spirit as they teach and shepherd the souls of our church members in their small groups. Please pray for those being discipled in the groups, that they would grow strong in the Lord, rooted and established in Him. Please pray for me as I work to develop the next study for our small groups and oversee its implementation in our network.

In the next two to three weeks as I write this, we will have a combined service with all three churches and celebrate baptism. Several people are wanting to be baptized. I will preach about baptism, and then the pastors will baptize those in their churches who are ready to do that.

We will also be celebrating the first graduation of the School of Ministry for our leaders in May. Please pray for these events that they will be meaningful times that impact peoples’ lives forever.

Thank you for all you do to help make this possible. To let you know, in addition to our normal operations, we do have need of Bibles for people. Many do not own one. We also want to present our School of Ministry graduates with Study Bibles. In addition, we have a team from within our network developing new discipleship materials, evangelistic materials, kids’ materials, etc. If you would like to make a special, designated donation to Bibles/Discipleship Materials, all of it would go to those things and would be a big help.

Your partnership in prayer, financial partnership, encouragement and in other ways is an invaluable part of what God is doing here. On behalf of our Board and USA team and Asia team, thank you for being part of this. You are making a tangible and eternal difference in peoples’ lives. – David
