We are so grateful for your prayers and partnership with Encounter Generation, Inc. Below is some of what has been happening with the ministry and personally.

In October, 2016, you will remember we began working on a project in partnership with Pastor R. and his team in Myanmar. The project was a three-story building that would house a church, a children’s home, a school for training up church planters and leaders, and a facility that would invest in wholistic community development. Thanks to you, by March, 2017, we had secured most of the needed funding. After some months of securing permits and by late 2017, construction began. This past June, 2018, the children began moving into the children’s home and classes began for the leadership training school for future church leaders in that nation. Pastor R’s dream, and our dream to partner with him and his team to reach Myanmar with the hope of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has come to fruition.

This was the land Pastor R. and the ministry in Myanmar had when the vision was just a dream.

The foundation as it was being prepared and poured.

Construction happening.

The building as it is recently being finished.

The girls have moved into the children’s home part of the new building!

The boys have moved into the children’s home!

As leaders are trained in the school of leadership in the new building, more unreached villages with people like this (below) who have not heard of Jesus can be reached with practical help and the good news of God’s Kingdom.

A project that makes this much of an impact in a ministry and community and nation happens because partners like you come alongside us to see dreams like this happen. Many people will be impacted in a powerful and beautiful way because of your prayers and the investment you made.

Please pray for Pastor R. and his team as they work in a nation where persecution is real and ministry is difficult. Yet they serve sacrificially for the sake of Christ and for those He died for who have yet to hear the good news & live with many needs. Please pray for that nation, for peace, for the believers there and for the good news of the Kingdom to be carried humbly, proclaimed boldly and demonstrated powerfully throughout the land.

Article On Myanmar

I am currently back in the USA. I returned from Asia a bit earlier than anticipated in late May due partially to an infection that I have still been dealing with. I can function fine, but I have not felt 100%. Doctors are working to remedy the issue, and we are praying for God’s touch and complete healing.

Speaking of dreams coming true, as I was preparing to come back, my then fiancé Amanda and I decided to get married sooner than originally planned. So on July 7, with our families present, we made our vows to one another. Next to Jesus, Amanda is the best thing to happen to me!

My wife Amanda and me: Mrs. and Mrs. Gilliam!

Amanda and I had the privilege of ministering at a youth camp and at two churches in West Virginia in late July. There is also much more to update you on from events in the Philippines as well as many future plans. We will share from the West VA trip and update you on the rest very soon in the next update. I will be traveling a lot and continuing Encounter Generation’s work. Trips back to Asia for multiple weeks, to Jamaica and to Uganda are being planned. But I wanted to share with you the good news of what God has done in Myanmar and how your prayers, partnership and gifts have helped propel that ministry forward into greater Kingdom impact.

Thank you for your love for God, your prayers, your love for lost people and for believing in me, Encounter Generation and our partners in the nations as we work together to advance the Gospel and to see God’s Kingdom come and His will done among the nations as His will is in Heaven.

Joy, bottom left, and the Sidewalk Sunday School team at the new outreach location

In our ministry in the Philippines, the Sidewalk Sunday School outreach called K.I.C.K.ers (Kids in Christ’s Kingdom) is reaching out to a new neighborhood in Trece Martires, Philippines. This has allowed us the opportunity to feed children (often from very difficult circumstances) and to provide for them a fun environment to meet friends, play, sing, learn practical life values and learn about Jesus and HIs love for them. Joy, (pictured front left) was a graduate of our School of Ministry last year, and she continues to lead this ministry very faithfully and skillfully. She incorporates other adults and youth into the team which ministers to these kids and their families. A new weekly Bible study was launched in this community as well through the work of this outreach. The reputation Joy has developed leading this program has also opened doors for her to lead and coordinate children’s programs and outreaches on mission trips to the northern mountains of the Philippines and other places for the ministry I had a chance to serve and help pioneer 12 plus years ago, Acts 13 Initiative. (Now know as Project Acts Mission Challenge and fully Filipino-led).

As most of you know, we have a network of three churches covering three cities in the province of Cavite, Philippines, just south of Manila. This network includes the Sidewalk Sunday School outreach to children, referenced above. It also includes our School of Ministry that trains up leaders and pastors from our three churches as well as from one church from outside our network. The School of Ministry has finished up its first trimester and is already moving into its next one with around 17 students, including two of our associate pastors, who are faithfully investing their time to grow and develop as spiritual leaders. Pastor Dion, also a graduate of our first batch of students in the School of Ministry, pastors the church in Trece Martires and now serves as the Assistant Director of the School of Ministry. So he leads the school when I am away. We have seen God take us from around 7 leaders in the initial church in the Philippines to currently 40-plus leaders who are serving in some capacity in our network. We are seeing God’s faithfulness and the fruit of intentionally equipping and mentoring leaders.

As I returned from time in the states, things were running quite well in the Philippines. This and the number of leaders we have in our team here have freed me to expand into new opportunities. I am starting to travel out and speak other places much more.

On April 3, I travel to Myanmar for two and a half weeks to speak at a youth camp, to hold a revival service, to speak in churches and small groups and to survey the situation as we begin the building project there with our friend and church planter, Pastor Robin Kung. Our largest project for the year is a two-story building that will allow Robin and his team’s ministry in Myanmar the following opportunities:

  • Provide a training center to equip and raise up church planters, pastors and future church and community leaders.
  • Provide basic training for life and job skills to a community where training can improve the opportunities and lifestyle for many.
  • Provide a permanent home for the base church in Yangon.
  • Provide an orphanage for children, many who were displaced because of Civil War.
  • Reach out to children in holistic ways through Sidewalk Sunday School.
  • Hold revival services, training conferences, youth camps, mentor and equip leaders and much more!

This is such an exciting opportunity for us to come alongside Robin and see happen. We believe it will not just meet so many practical needs. We believe this will help facilitate opportunities for the Kingdom of God to be demonstrated throughout Myanmar.

Please pray for me as I travel to Myanmar, for fruitful ministry, good health, energy for a busy schedule, divine connections and meetings and the demonstration of the Kingdom of God so that people would meet the King. The King is why we do what we do in this ministry. Abundant life, eternal purpose in life and life everlasting is found in Him. Thank you for your prayers for me and all our team and connections in Asia and in the U.S. and for all you do to make this ministry possible in Asia. None of this happens without partners like you.

Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age. – Matthew 28:19-20
